Aaron was born in Darwin and went to school both in Nauiyu (St Francis Xavier School) and Darwin at St Mary’s Primary School. He also attended St Johns College in Darwin. He always watched his mother, Patricia Marrfurra McTaggart, paint at home. Being trained at school he started painting. When he came back from college and during the school holidays he would paint in his free time. One of his early paintings with dragonflies was bought by Community Aid Abroad and published in the CAA diary.
Aaron is a member and Director for Merrepen Arts, Language and Culture Aboriginal Corporation. He works in a range of mediums including painting, printmaking and textile design. His art often features themes related to the local Daly River environment, such as crocodiles and wetlands. His art has been shown in exhibitions in Oslo, Norway, and San Francisco, USA, among other places.
In addition to his artistic work, he holds a Graduate Certificate in Indigenous Arts Management, which he earned in 2010.
