Minjangari is our word for water lilies. They grow in billabongs all year round. They are best to eat in the cold weather – June to August. When they are in flower we can eat the stems raw, they are like celery. Then we go down and eat the bulb, it tastes a little like sour peanuts. We only eat it cooked on the coals in the fire. Later, when the seed pods form we can eat the seeds.
